Music, like vision and arts, can transcend the limitations of morality over time.
The programme for this concert is conceived as a response to T. S. Eliot’s Four Quartets, taking up three themes:
The Still Point of Redemption: Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater
The Still Point of Eternity: Fauré’s Requiem
The Still Point of Longing: Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, a work composed in the same period as the Four Quartets that also alludes to World War 11
Before the performance of each piece, an extract of the Four Quartets will be read by the Dean of HKU Arts Faculty, Professor Douglas Kerr, to connect the music with the poetry.
The concert will feature the world renowned countertenor Iestyn Davies, the recipient of the Critics’ Circle Awards for Exceptional Young Talent (Singer), together with a group of outstanding local music talents including conductor Felix Yeung, soprano Yuki Ip, baritone Caleb Woo and chamber choir Die Konzertisten.
Come to the Grand Hall at HKU on the Sunday afternoon of September and experience the eternal beauty of human voice.
