Faith@Work: The Way to Success

Christine Ip (HKU BA ’86) is a Managing Director for United Overseas Bank Limited (“UOB”). Appointed CEO of UOB since January 2012, Christine is responsible for developing the Bank’s Greater China strategy.

Prior to joining UOB, Christine has held a range of senior management roles in Hong Kong, USA, Canada, Singapore and China with ANZ, Standard Chartered Bank and HSBC. Christine was previously CEO and Executive Director of the China business for Australia and New Zealand Bank (“ANZ”), where she led the expansion of the franchise in geography, building a comprehensive range of corporate and retail products. During her role as ANZ China CEO, the Bank won best “Australia Business Award in China” by Australia Chamber of Commerce.

Christine has also served as Country Head, Consumer Banking, China at Standard Chartered Bank spearheading the development of the business and team building with WTO opening. She has led the Standard Chartered Bank to win “Best Retail Bank in HK” and “Best Foreign Retail Bank in China”. She has been awarded “Best International Retail Banker” in 2008 by the Asia Retail Congress, and named among the Top 100 Greater China Senior Women Executives in 2012 by the China Woman Association.

Christine is a non-executive director of United Overseas Bank (China) Ltd and an independent non-executive director of SmarTone Telecommunications Holdings Ltd, a listed company on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. She has been the Co-chairperson of the Bridge-to-China Walkathon Fundraising Committee since 2013.

Christine holds a Bachelor Degree of Arts from University of Hong Kong and MBA from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
